How to Correct Peeling Plastic Body Moldings

One of the challenges with modern cars is that a lot of trim is held on with double-sided foam tape. That’s usually not a problem as long as they never get removed, but what if you remove them for paint? Once you peel that original adhesive off, it can be difficult to get them to stick again, as Adam recently found out with his ’93 Mustang.

Last fall he gave the tired-looking convertible a new lease on life with a fresh respray using Eastwood OEM Select paint. Wisely, he removed all the trim including the body side moldings, which he repainted separately.

Over the winter as the car sat undriven, Adam noticed the door moldings were sagging and falling off. In the video below, watch as he corrects the distorted moldings before reapplying them with professional body adhesive for a more permanent fix. (And no, despite recommendations in the video comments, wood screws were not involved.)
