Bagged C-10 – Episode 3: Fabricating a Custom Notch Cover

Adam’s 1985 Chevy C-10 pickup project continues with the addition of a custom cover for the notched frame. Until now, he’s been hiding notch job with some wooden boards. But he’s decided it’s time to get serious make a sheet metal panel in preparation for a new bed finish.

In this episode Adam makes a support frame out of square tubing then lays out a sheet of 20-gauge steel for the cover. Using Eastwood’s motorized bead roller, he presses a series of ribs into the panel to add some strength. A shrinker/stretcher helps eliminate some of the deflection caused by the bead roller before he rivets the panel to the frame.
